Lylah Soumelidis,12, trying out wheelchair basketball with KIDZ in Community
Great news! Mpower’s KIDZ in the Community programs have just been released for the September school holidays. There are some fabulous and fun activities on offer.
Mpower’s Disability Services team have designed a unique program of events for the upcoming September school holidays including wheelchair basketball, crafts, scenic tours, sporting activities and more. The program is developed for both Primary and Secondary students to experience something new, make friends and share common interests with their peers. Nelson Reason, Disability Services Team Leader explained “For participants, getting out and about creates an awareness of the wider community and encourages their independence and social skills.”
Nelson added “All of our participants are supported by a team of experienced and passionate support workers, who work with them on the goals included in their NDIS plan. Our cooking days are an excellent example of this. They learn about different foods, preparing ingredients, cooking and cleaning up. For some participants this will work towards developing independence skills.”
The KIDZ in the Community program is held Monday to Friday in each school holiday. It is a full day program from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Bookings are essential to be part of the program.
