Our commitment

A website that works for everyone

This website has been designed, built and tested to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

WCAG is the international standard for making web content accessible. It is referenced by the Australian Government and the Australian Human Rights Commission as the benchmark for accessible websites under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Accessibility has been built into the design and code of this site from the start, rather than added afterwards.

We know accessibility is ongoing work. New pages, news and documents are added all the time, and our team has been trained to publish content that stays accessible. If something doesn't work for you, please tell us and we will fix it.

What we have built in

Accessibility features on this site

These features are part of every page on the Mpower website.

Colour and contrast

All text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, or 3:1 for large text. Where Mpower Orange and Green are too light for small text, we use darker brand-matched shades so text stays easy to read.

WCAG 1.4.3 · 1.4.11

Keyboard and focus

Every menu, dropdown, form and button works using a keyboard alone. A clear focus outline shows where you are, and it is never hidden behind the header. A “Skip to main content” link is provided.

WCAG 2.1.1 · 2.4.7 · 2.4.11

Touch and pointer

Buttons and links are at least 24 × 24 pixels, with larger targets in the main menu. Nothing on the site requires dragging to use it.

WCAG 2.5.7 · 2.5.8

Structure and screen readers

Pages use proper headings, landmarks and labelled navigation. Images have text alternatives, links describe where they go, and the page language is set so screen readers pronounce content correctly.

WCAG 1.1.1 · 1.3.1 · 2.4.4 · 3.1.1

Forms

Contact, feedback and donation forms have visible labels and clear error messages. You won't be asked to enter the same information twice, and there are no puzzle-style CAPTCHAs.

WCAG 3.3.1 · 3.3.2 · 3.3.7 · 3.3.8

Consistent help and navigation

Our phone number, email and help links appear in the same place on every page, and the menu works the same way throughout the site.

WCAG 3.2.3 · 3.2.6

Responsive and zoom

The site works on phones, tablets and computers. Content reflows at 320 pixels wide and up to 400% zoom without losing information, and animation respects your device's “reduce motion” setting.

WCAG 1.4.4 · 1.4.10 · 2.3.3

Video and media

Videos embedded on the site support captions, and we provide transcripts where needed so information is available without sound.

WCAG 1.2.2 · 1.2.3

How we check

Testing and review

Before launch, the website was checked using automated testing tools together with hands-on manual testing. Automated tools find many issues, but real-world testing with a keyboard and screen readers is what makes sure the site actually works for people.

Our testing includes:

  • Automated checks with axe and WAVE
  • Keyboard-only navigation of every page, menu and form
  • Screen reader testing with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on iPhone, iPad and Mac
  • Zoom and reflow testing up to 400%
  • Colour contrast checks on all text and controls

Known limitations

We work hard to make everything accessible, but some content may not yet fully meet the standard:

  • Older PDF documents. Some reports and brochures published before this website may not be fully accessible. We can provide these in another format on request.
  • Third-party services. Embedded services such as external job portals, payment gateways and social media feeds are managed by other providers. We choose accessible options where available.
  • Video captions. Captions on some older videos may be automatically generated.

Tips for using this website

01

Make text bigger

Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on a Mac) and press + to zoom in, or – to zoom out. On a phone or tablet, pinch with two fingers to zoom.

02

Use your keyboard

Press Tab to move forward through links and buttons, Shift + Tab to move back, and Enter to select. Press Tab once on any page to reveal the “Skip to main content” link.

03

Hear the page read aloud

Most devices include a free screen reader: Narrator on Windows, VoiceOver on Apple devices and TalkBack on Android. NVDA is a free screen reader you can download for Windows.
