Speech Pathology Week 2021
To celebrate, Sarah will be sharing our daily Key Word Sign video to teach you some useful words and phrases.
Hi, I'm Jasmin, Happy Speech Pathology Week! I’m here to show your our Key Word Sign phrases for today. Before I start I just wanted to highlight that the focus of Speech Pathology Week this year is that “communication is everybody’s right” and key word sign enables us to facilitate communication access for all by supporting a person's understanding and use of language.
So the two signs I’m going to show you today are ‘like’ and ‘don’t like’. Two opposite ends of the scale.
To start with we’ll use ‘like.’ To create this sign you use your dominant hand- for me this is my right hand. If you are a left hander, it will be your left hand. Start with an open flat palm, put it across your chest and move it in small circles.
‘like’
‘like’
We can use that sign in questions “Do you like it?” or in statements “I like it”.
"Don’t like" also starts with our flat dominant hand, we bring it to our chest but we move it outwards and flip it over.
‘don’t like’
‘don’t like’
We can use that in short brief statements like ‘I don’t like it’ or we could use it in another statement like ‘stop, I don’t like it’.
I hope those phrases are helpful. Happy signing!
